The Texas A&M University Higher Education Center at McAllen (HECM) launched its first academic programs in 2017 and opened its doors in 2018. As part of Texas A&M University, the Higher Education Center at McAllen is committed to supporting the educational needs of its students by providing top-tier programs to fulfill student career goals, enhancing economic development of the region, and producing a skilled workforce. Today, the Higher Education Center at McAllen continues to grow, with nine undergraduate degree programs and a wide array of student resources and professional opportunities available, Aggies are provided valuable and specialized skills to further elevate industries in the Rio Grande Valley and beyond.
Position Description

Texas A&M is looking for the next Assistant Provost of the Higher Education Center at McAllen (HECM). The Assistant Provost at HECM will be the key individual for academic coordination and student services and will work directly with faculty, colleges, and schools to build on existing educational offerings. Additionally, the Assistant Provost will oversee the coordination of programs, academic advising, and other support services.

Academic Program Coordination
- Supervise any academic advisors that report directly up through the HECM and liaise with other academic advisors that support HECM students.
- Supervise the scheduling of courses in coordination with the home departments and academic advisors.
- Interface with home department leadership to understand hiring needs as they arise.
- Work on search committees for faculty that will be in residence at HECM.
- Serve as the main point of connection for the home departments for degree programs offered at HECM. This will include overseeing the McAllen coordination meetings and periodic meetings with departments to discuss student recruitment, enrollment, retention, and faculty issues.
- Interface with the deans of colleges and schools with programs at HECM.
- Responsible for the identification of candidates and the selection of awardees for local HECM awards for students and faculty.
- Work with HECM staff and home departments to ensure that laboratories equipment is functional and well maintained. This will include coordinating the financial aspects for equipment and consumables.
Student Recruitment & Wellbeing
- Responsible for coordinating with recruitment and prospective student resources in College Station (and at remote prospective student centers). This will include organizing local recruitment events and events for admitted students that reduce "summer melt".
- Responsible for coordinating and securing counselling and psychological services, career services, and other ancillary services for HECM students. This will entail securing physical space and coordinating with the College Station offices to make sure students have the necessary resources.
- Working with the Division of Student Affairs, the assistant provost will work to provide HECM students with activities that provide them the genuine Aggie experience.
Community Outreach & Strategy
- Will function as a key member of the HECM leadership team.
- Will provide input to strategic plans and develop tactics and measures to ensure their effective implementation, and
- Work to secure and maintain community relationships. This could entail hosting meetings for groups to raise awareness of HECM and the formation of long-term partnerships.

Required Education & Experience
- Ph.D. or other terminal degree in a field appropriate to Texas A&M University.
- Five years' experience with administration of college-level educational programs.
- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Qualifications
- Teaching and scholarship appropriate for tenure at a major research university.
