Position Description

The Dean and Associate Provost for Graduate & Professional Studies (APGPS):
- Oversees the graduate and professional student academic experience and collaborates with counterparts on campus to ensure that all activities are aligned with the University's mission and vision.
- Establishes a clear identity and vision for the Graduate and Professional School while strengthening relationships with other academic offices.
- Provides effective leadership on graduate issues, provide guidance on policy, and raise the profile and supporting achievements of graduate and professional programs at Texas A&M consistent with aspirations expressed in the Decade of Excellence Strategic Plan 2020-2025.
- Demonstrates the value of graduate education to stakeholders, create programs enhancing graduate and professional student success and advocate for resources to support those initiatives.
- Effectively supports the full range of graduate and professional programs across a range of academic and professional disciplines, as well as foster a climate of effective and inclusive mentoring, and assist in preparing students for careers in academia, industry, non-profits, and public service.
- Manages the school in such a way as to maximize its contribution to the overall educational and fiscal goals of the University as a whole.
- Develops and executes budgets and other plans as needed for the management of the Grad School and administers the financial and material resources of the school effectively and efficiently.

Leadership by the APGPS and Dean will be needed to: (a) increase the scope and quality of graduate and professional programs,(b)attract highly qualified and competitive students for graduate and professional studies review and monitor graduate and professional enrollment trends, and (d) foster and continuously assess the climate that welcomes graduate and professional students as key members of the university community of scholars.
The Dean and Associate Provost for Graduate and Professional Studies (APGPS):
- Supervises Grad School faculty administrators and staff appropriately by following University policies and procedures.
- Formulates, documents, and executes programs, plans, assessments, policies, and procedures, as appropriate.
- Supervises Grad School planning, constructs the Grad School budget, seeks requisite funds from University’s state budget.
Acts as the chief intermediary between the graduate faculty and students and the Executive Vice President and Provost. - Oversees all functions within the Grad School and delegates responsibility to appropriate staff members.
- Provides leadership supporting the University’s strategic plan and in the development and execution of the school’s strategic plan, goals, and assessment.
- Works collaboratively with the Graduate and Professional Council to develop recommendations for institution-wide policies and curriculum for graduate and professional studies.
- Works collaboratively with College/School Associate Deans on operations and procedures regarding the administration of graduate education throughout the University.

- Doctoral degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Current Tenured Faculty member.
- Prior experience with graduate education and issues.
- TAMUS administrative experience. Significant record of experience in research, publication, and scholarly achievement. Experience working effectively in group settings to build consensus and facilitate collaborative relationships.
- Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to work well with internal staff. A thorough understanding and appreciation of the dynamics of research and its relationship to graduate program development. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Knowledge of current issues impacting graduate enrollment.
- Experience with managing budgets and a demonstrated record of fiduciary transparency and accountability.
- Proven track record of sustainably building a unit's interna and external reputation and identity.
